Three-Ten to Yuma by Elmore Leonard is a 1953 short story first published in Dime Western Magazine about a sheriff attempting to uphold his duty by ensuring a ruthless outlaw gets on the train to Yuma Territorial Prison. 

 

 

It was adapted to the screen in 1957, directed by Delmer Daves and again in 2007, directed by James Mangold and starring Russell Crowe.
