Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption by Stephen King is a 1982 novella (short story) originally published in his collection titled Different Seasons. A young banker is convicted and imprisoned for the murder of his wife. He claims he is innocent and will not give up his spirit of hope. He makes friends with Red, the prison entrepreneur and together they seek redemption.
In 1994 it was adapted to film, titled The Shawshank Redemption, and directed by Frank Darabont.

House of Sand and Fog by Andre Dubus III is a 1999 novel about an abandoned wife named Kathy who is evicted from her house and starts a tragic conflict with her home's new owners.

It was adapted to the screen in 2003, directed by Vadim Perelman, and starring Ben Kingsley and Jennifer Connelly.
